OUR WINES AT THE "TOP OF TOSKANA"!

Top of Toskana is an annual event and ranking by the Swiss wine magazine "Vinum", which selects and reviews the best Tuscan wines.
The "Top of Tuscany" selection is published annually, with editions such as "Top of Tuscany 2025" and "Top of Toskana 2026" highlighting the best wines of that year. It represents "Vinum's" annual selection of the most exceptional Tuscan wines, based on tastings and expert evaluations.
In this selection, three of our wines received excellent reviews, ranking highly.

Don José 2022  enters Vinum's Top 10!
The news of our new success comes from the Top of Tuscany 2026 dossier. Don José 2020 is among the "Top 10 Best of Maremma Toscana DOC" selected by Vinum magazine and the great Christian Eder.
The prestigious Vinum magazine dedicated a special issue to the wines of Maremma Toscana DOC, making it the centerpiece of the magazine. The tastings and reviews of our wines have rewarded our daily commitment to producing only wines of great emotion and quality.
The wine that gave us the greatest satisfaction was "Don José," which entered the Top 10, but we were also thrilled by the reviews we received for Il Cucchetto and Poggio Colombi.

  • DON JOSE’ 2022 | 93 points
    Maremma Toscana Doc Cabernet Franc
"Aged in barrique, it lends refinement: a complex nose of black cherries, chocolate, and Mediterranean scrub; the tannic-acidic structure is perfectly balanced, elegant, and long on the finish with notes of plums, aromatic herbs, and pepper."

  • IL CUCCHETTO 2022 | 91 points
    Maremma Toscana Doc Cabernet Sauvignon
"Spicy aromas of berries, dark nougat, aromatic herbs, dried flowers, and even fresh sandalwood; velvety texture, well-structured tannins supported by a fresh acidity, and a velvety finish with subtle balsamic notes. A full-bodied accompaniment to a Maremma steak."

  • POGGIO COLOMBI 2023 | 91 points
    Maremma Toscana Doc Cabernet

"The powerful nose is captivating with notes of blackberry, cocoa, and hazelnut, and then a hint of Mediterranean scrub; balanced texture, well-structured tannins, and a velvety finish of undergrowth, cinnamon, and blueberry jam."

Maremma Toscana DOC
THE CHARACTER OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

MAREMMA TOSCANA DOC INCLUDES THE ENTIRE PROVINCE OF GROSSETO IN SOUTHWESTERN TUSCANY. THE APPELLATION IS CONSIDERED A RISING STAR AMONG ITALIAN WINE-GROWING REGIONS AND IS EQUALLY SUITABLE FOR RED AND WHITE GRAPE VARIETIES.

The Maremma boasts diverse climatic, soil, and morphological characteristics: volcanic soils east of the Fiora River around the municipalities of Pitigliano and Sorano; marly soils in the hills between the Fiora and Ombrone rivers; clay and silt in the Alta Maremma, in the hills near the coast, and in the alluvial soils of the plain.
However, the Maremma landscape is not limited to Tuscany, but extends south to Lazio. Therefore, despite its origins in Etruscan times, viticulture is relatively new. In addition to international red grape varieties such as Cabernet, Merlot, and Grenache, indigenous grape varieties also thrive here: Sangiovese, of course, but Ciliegiolo and Pugnitello also benefit from the balanced climate near the sea. The same applies to white grape varieties, especially Vermentino, which has long been a Mediterranean flagship of the region.
Thanks to its proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea and its partly sandy soils, the Maremma Toscana DOC is a particularly suitable growing area for classic Bordeaux varietals and Mediterranean reds such as Syrah and Grenache. Some of the region's most important and long-lived red wines are blends of Cabernet and Merlot.
However, climate change is causing Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to gain increasing importance.
We also dedicated this tasting to international varietals, both blended and single-varietal, to explore the potential of Merlot and other coastal varieties in times of climate change.
The result is more than satisfactory: not only in the best vintages like 2021 and 2019, but also in more laborious years like the dry 2022, the Maremma benefited from its proximity to the sea, and those who worked hard succeeded in producing highly prized wines.
Even in the 2023 vintage, when downy mildew caused problems across much of Italy, the results in Maremma are quite encouraging.
